Antoine Vanner has brought historic naval fiction into “The Age of Fighting Steam” in the late 19th Century. His Dawlish Chronicles series of novels centre on Nicholas Dawlish, an ambitious Royal Navy officer of the late Victorian period, and his indomitable wife Florence. The plots are linked to real events and real characters, often in settings in which Vanner has direct personal experience. His work is based on deep knowledge of the political, military and social history of the period as well as of its contemporary “cutting edge technologies”. Vanner spent many years in international business and continues to travel extensively on a private basis. Six Dawlish Chronicles novels have appeared so far, and a seventh is in preparation.
